Anton Setiawan, General Manager, Information Technology, PT Panca Budi Idaman TBK (IDX:PBID)

Anton Setiawan leads the end-to-end IT operations for the entire Panca Budi Group. This includes managing a team of 40 IT professionals comprising system analysts, software developers, database administrators and network & infrastructure specialists. He leads the development and execution of IT strategies aligned with business goals, especially in areas like manufacturing automation, supply chain optimization and digital distribution. He also ensures that day to day operations, whether it's ERP systems, network & infrastructure, or technical support run efficiently and securely. His responsibility also extends to technology innovation, including the adoption of AI and data driven solutions to support decision making and operational efficiency across their national and export markets.

AI has played a pivotal role in enhancing operational visibility and responsiveness across our manufacturing, distribution and logistics operations

AI Driving Operational Efficiency and Decision-Making

AI has played a pivotal role in enhancing operational visibility and responsiveness across our manufacturing, distribution and logistics operations. For instance, predictive analytics has enabled us to better forecast demand fluctuations, which is critical for managing raw material procurement and production schedules. AI algorithms also help us identify patterns in machine maintenance needs, reducing unplanned downtime through preventive interventions.

AI-powered dashboards allow real-time data consolidation from various departments such as procurement, production, sales, and distribution, providing our executives with actionable insights that accelerate strategic decision-making. In our distribution and logistics arm, route optimization algorithms have significantly improved delivery efficiency, reducing both fuel costs and service delays.

Our approach is guided by a principle of responsible AI adoption. First and foremost, we ensure that any AI initiative is compliant with Indonesia's evolving data protection laws and industry specific regulations. We implement strict data governance frameworks and maintain end to end encryption, role-based access and regular audits to safeguard sensitive information.

Ethical considerations are embedded into our AI development lifecycle. We promote transparency in algorithmic decisions, prevent bias in training data, and always keep a human in the loop for critical business processes. Cross functional collaboration is key, we work closely with legal, compliance and business units to ensure that our technology aligns with ethical and regulatory expectations.

Beyond technical proficiency in AI and data science, today’s IT professionals need a hybrid skill set. This includes:

Business acumen: Understanding how AI creates value across business functions is crucial.

    Critical thinking:

Professionals must be able to evaluate AI outputs and question assumptions.

    Cybersecurity awareness:

As systems become more intelligent, they also become more vulnerable.

    Collaboration and communication:

AI projects succeed through interdisciplinary teamwork, not siloed execution.

At Panca Budi, we actively invest in upskilling our teams to adapt to this paradigm, combining structured learning programs with on-the-job training in AI implementation projects.

Stay curious, stay ethical, and stay adaptable. The pace of technological change is only accelerating and those who succeed are not necessarily the most technically advanced, but those who can learn quickly, think systemically, and solve real world problems.

I encourage young professionals to build a strong foundation in both technology and business logic. Don’t just focus on tools but focus on impact. Participate in real projects, seek mentorship, and don’t be afraid to take initiative. In an AI powered future, your ability to connect technology with purpose will be your greatest asset.

The Future of AI in Manufacturing and Logistics

At PT Panca Budi Idaman Tbk, our journey in adopting AI is part of a broader commitment to digital transformation across Indonesia’s manufacturing and logistics sectors. As a leading plastic packaging company with a strong national and export presence, we recognize that innovation must go hand in hand with sustainability, regulatory compliance, and customer centricity.

In the years ahead, I believe that the convergence of AI, IoT and cloud technologies will fundamentally redefine how traditional industries operate. For organizations in APAC, especially in emerging markets, the opportunity lies not just in adopting advanced technologies but in reshaping mindsets, upgrading skill sets and reimagining business models.

We also see AI as a collaborative force, not a replacement. Its real value emerges when used to augment human capability, freeing teams from repetitive tasks so they can focus on strategic, creative and value driven work.
